Have you ever wondered why 'W' is pronounced double-U?
I have the answer. It's because it looks like a pair of cascaded Us, UU, double-U.
Some of you might have an argument for VV, double-V ? Let me explain.
You see, the creator of the english alphabet had some not-so-smart neighbors. And, Creator-English Alphabet, wasn't a very high paying job either. Regular wagers with his foolish neighbors was the creator's additional source of income. What did they bet on? Only the most popular game of the pre-alphabet era, The Flip a Coin contest. The creator always fancied his chances playing the neighbors. The neighbors would say, "Heads you win, tails we lose." They also believed that if they kept playing, they'd get better. And so the creators fortune multiplied.
Cut to the day when the creator had to decide between double-U and double-V. His eyes fall on the lose change returned for his one cutting-chai. A smile envelopes his face as he thinks - heads U wins; tails V loses. Apparently elated with his play on the alphabet, the creator flips a coin. Honest.
P.S. Hey, Soul, you still do take me seriously, don't you? ;-)
