RYB

Last i knew, the primary colors were Red, Green and Blue. RGB.

I had a heated debate with a photographer from London who insisted that the primary colors are Red, Yellow and Blue. RYB.

I am supposed to know this not only as a photography enthusiast but also as a fundamental that falls under the purview of my professional competence.

Did my teachers lie to me? :-(

God damn it, Crooner. Looks like my teachers lied to me too? Or were they RGB blind?

The color scheme in our lives is changing, eh!

*cheers*

well Trevor.... as a former artist let me tell you this: RYB. Yup. Green is not a primary color. Green is yellow and blue. Shocking I know :-)

red green and blue have something to do with TV screens...

if it makes you feel any better, for the longest time i thought that eskimos were penguins.

LOL! No, they weren't color blind. Nor were they lying. There's a lot of different "color spaces" out there. :-)

@Isis
LOL! Our Yash Raj inspired primary colors have to be RGB. :-)

@ Agnes
True and False.
Here's the deal. I was taught (rightly) that RGB are the primary colors. Now, there are two kinds of color spaces we engineers work in. The positive or additive space is RGB and the negative space is CYM (Cyan, Yellow and Magenta).

However, these color spaces are meant for direct light utilities and not pigmented light where colors are absorbed. Artists such as yourself work on pigmented space which happens to be RYB. This i was not aware of. :-)

My goodness, Trevor, I had no idea!

I always thought RGB was a TV thing.... but then again, I was 12 when I found out eskimos were people, so don't pay too much attention to anything I say :-)

Like i said, there's nothing wrong with your notion of primary colors. We were both thinking on different terms (or spaces) :)

Now that was a "colourful" discussion between you and Agnes. Or did you guys "colour" it?

Thanks for updating my knowledge.

And, also for confusing me with the positive and negative thing.

@Agnes: You, for doing that with Eskimos and Penguins.

See, I take both of you very seriously. I do.

RGB, really? That's the first I've ever heard. I didnt study in India but I've always learnt it as RYB. Green just doesnt qualify as a primary color because you can mix yellow and blue to get green. You cant mix other colors to get red, blue or yellow. Or so they say.
